On April 13, 2010, the Multimedia Design department of Raffles Design Institute Guangzhou arranged a field trip to the ‘Guangdong Museum of Art’ to see the exhibition of Norwegian Multimedia Art Group ‘Verdensteatret’. It’s called ‘A Media Art Exhibition from Norway. Founded in 1986, the Oslo-based Norwegian multimedia art group Verdensteatret (Theater of the World) attracts artists from different fields. Their cross-disciplinary cooperation bridges boundaries among many different disciplines.

During this field trip, the students experienced and researched this field of visual culture. The notion of “crossover” is already part of their daily life, brought about by a series of media and everyday visual impressions in the city.

This experience and research provides an opportunity to our students to rethink and explore the phenomenon of contemporary visual culture characterized by an ever changing audio-visual experience and the constant reconfiguration of media and their linguistic implications.

Our students discovered new possibilities, which broadened their ways of seeing and thinking; they experienced new forms of expression and saw how cross-disciplinary teamwork works. It was a wonderful examination on art’s integration into the daily information society in a global cultural environment.
