A competency model refers to a group of characteristics that drive
outstanding performance in a job, role or function. This group of
characteristics is also known as competencies. The number and
type of competencies in a model will depend upon the nature and
complexity of work; and the organisational culture and values.
Competency model was since the 70’s by Dr David McClelland,
Harvard Business School Professor of Psychology. Leading
organisations have been using competencies to help recruit,
select and manage their outstanding performers.

Mr Anthony Mak, a Human Resource Management veteran with
more than 20 years of experience in organisational development
and consulting in Asia Pacific with special focus in the Greater
China Region, will share on competencies used in organisations’
Human Resource System and the development of self-competencies
for entry positions of organisations.

“胜任能力模型”指的是在工作,任务,职责中促使杰出表现的一组特
性。这组特性也称为“胜任能力”。胜任能力的数量和形式在模型中的
表现取决于工作的性质与复杂性,组织文化及价值观。胜任能力模型
自70年代被哈佛商业学院心理学教授大卫•麦克利兰
(Dr David McClelland )博士发明后,已被各类企业先锋应用于招聘,
选拔及管理他们的杰出员工。

Mr Anthony Mak is the Director of Consulting Services at First Priority
Consulting, business and management consultancy firm. Prior to First
Priority, he was the General Manager of Development Dimensions
International (DDI), a leading human resource development and
consulting company with its head quarter in Pittsburgh, USA. 

Anthony’s experience covers designing and managing research, training
programs, competency models, performance measurement systems, senior management consultancy, change processes and communication strategies.

Anthony has worked with Wrigley China, Johnson & Johnson China,
Cadbury China, Hewlett Packard China, British Airways Japan, Northwest
Airlines Korea, Shangri-la Hotels and Resorts, Shanghai General Motors,
Standard Chartered Bank, just to name a few of his Global or Fortune
500 clients. He had also worked with several Hong Kong statutory boards, including Hong Kong Post Office, Hong Kong Government SAR, Hong Kong Monetary Authority, Hong Kong Society of Accountants and Hong Kong Tourist Association.
