On 13th May 2010, Dan Shen, a well-known movie columnist who writes for Guangzhou Radio visited Raffle Design Institute – Guangzhou to conduct an interview with our lecturers and students from Interior Design Program.

Mr. Shen is a movie critic for local Chinese and Foreign films. He believes that “in a good movie, the design for the film set is very crucial. A good design not only can make that movie more active and inspire more imagination, but also allow the audience to experience a virtual sense that may not exist in the real life.”

After our ID lecturers and students had been invited to design the film set for Hong Kong celebrity Cheung Tat-Ming’s upcoming movie project “If I have 3 Million” and attained high recognition for the efforts, Mr. Shen become interested in the educational mode of our College. Hence, he requested for an interview with our lecturers and students.

During the interview, students not only displayed their own design, they also shared certain methods that they adopted to overcome difficulties in the design process. Everyone agreed that the most difficult part in the design process is the combination of creativity into the real operations of a film project. With the help of our professional lecturers, they manage to complete the project with much effectiveness. All our students treated this exercise as an opportunity to gain valuable experience. Furthermore, they also obtained a valuable insight into the considerations for a film set, such as camera movement, shooting position, design material and so on. In addition, they also learned about communication skills in the process of explaining the design concept in an easy-to-understand manner to the movie director.

One of our College’s educational focuses is on paying much attention to the development of industrial collaboration with corporations in different industries. This not only allows our students to practice what they have learnt, but also helps them to gain valuable internship and working experience. Mr. Shen expressed his high regards for such collaboration that Raffles Design Institute - Guangzhou developed to facilitate our students’ future development.
